Hi everyone. I was wondering if any one knows a little history about Excelsior. In particular when did accordiana and excelsiola models come out? What was the time frame and for how long? Were they less expensive? or just a different line, or better quality? I've seen prodfessional models of all three and was curious when and what they were made for.
All I know for sure is that they were first made in NYC. They were top of the the line instruments in their time. I'm not sure about accordiona and excelsiola and where they fit- i'm sure someone out there knows. I have a 58 Symphony Artist Double cassotto and I love it. It has incredible action and is tuned 443 and sounds amazing. Steve
My guess ( based on my limited experience ) is the Accordiana came out in the 40`s. Quite possibly early 40`s. I had sold one that I dated to about the mid 40`s about 2 yrs ago. I think the Excelsiola came a little later.
If you are ever in NYC go see Alex at "Alex's Musical Instruments" in Manhatten. He worked for Excelsior both in NY and Italy. He would know all about it

Just to add to the positive Weltmeister posts, I've had mine (an Achat 34/72) a little over a year and have nothing but good to say about it given the price.

your list of types of music and kinds of accordion were so extensive that it would take a couple of days to answer- do a little more research on the net. As for your price restrictions- Craig's list.
